I was first introduced to this movie during my undergraduate Introduction to Substance Abuse Counseling class. As a part of the course requirements, students had to attend a local open NA/AA meeting. I was fortunate enough to attend NA a meeting at East Central Mental Health where I connected with Mr. Timothy Kemp, the drug counselor over the center's IOP (intensive outpatient program). What should have been a one-time attendance, turned into a semester long mentorship. Mr. Kemp introduced me and his clients to this movie during one of the group sessions. What can I say? Mr. Kemp was more than just a drug counselor talking about drugs. He inspired living well mentally, physically, and spiritually. Being the bibliophile that I am, of course it was only natural that I would go on to get the book. Byrne delves into the law of attraction and how positive thinking, visualization, and gratitude can align your energy with your goals. While some may view this as overly optimistic, the book offers a powerful reminder of the role mindset plays in manifesting your dreams. This book forever changed my mindset and life trajectory. Thank you Mr. Kemp for bringing it to me. Life has never been the same. I hope you dear readers will have a similar transformative experience. Get your copy of The Secret today.
This short yet powerful parable uses a simple metaphor—mice navigating a maze in search of cheese—to explore how we respond to change. Johnson challenges you to ask: Are you clinging to old ways out of fear, or are you adapting and moving forward? The book uses simple language and relatable characters to convey these important life lessons such as adapt quickly, embrace the new, and don't fear the unknown.. Whether you’re facing a career shift, a relationship change, or a personal transition, Who Moved My Cheese? will encourage you to embrace the opportunities that come with change.
Covey emphasizes the importance of character ethic, focusing on principles like integrity, honesty, and service to others. There is a reason The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has stood the test of time. This book is not just about achieving external success—it’s about transforming your character and mindset. The habits teach you to focus on what you can control, seek win-win solutions, and continuously renew your mental, emotional, and physical energy. If you’re looking for a comprehensive framework to build a purpose-driven life, this is your roadmap.
This book is why I am an Amazon Affiliate. This book is why Envision Coaching & Consulting LLC exists. This book is why I invest in stocks and in crypto. I read this book when I was a struggling state employee for my local child welfare office working as a foster care worker. My vision for the future was to work hard, get my student loan forgiveness so that I maybe one day could overcome living paycheck to paycheck, and be able to retire drawing my social security benefit and my state sponsored retirement. This book shifted my thinking. I didn't have any financial education beyond "Save, save, save," told to me by my aunt Judy (I miss you auntie). Rich Dad Poor Dad emphasized the importance of financial education, thinking beyond a paycheck, and making your money work for you. In this classic on financial literacy, Kiyosaki contrasts the lessons he learned from his “rich dad” (a friend’s father who built wealth through investments) and his “poor dad” (his own father, who followed a traditional job-focused path). I ended up giving my copy of this book to one of the foster youths that was aging out of foster care and headed to join marines. The book was an eye-opener for me and I hope it helps transform how you view work and money too. If you are ready to break free from the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck, this book is a good place to start.
I read this book not long after Rich Dad Poor Dad. It was the further push I needed for initiating my entrepreneurial pursuits and furthering my spiritual quest. Originally published in 1937, Hill’s Think and Grow Rich is a classic self-help book that explores the principles of success, wealth, and personal achievement. As I mentioned last article, I love history so a book that was based on interviews with historical figures such as Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison was right up my alley as well. Think and Grow Rich outlines principles like desire, persistence, and faith that are essential for achieving wealth and success. It’s not just about money—it’s about cultivating the mindset to pursue your dreams relentlessly.
Transparent moment. I have yet to read this one. I know, I know. However, I have seen this one in many book group and it was highly recommended. If you're having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn't you. The problem is your system.
